For me, it was most tasty to watch Nelson beating the Brits (specially a self-conceited, sore loser, as it was).
It's all so much easier for a big country. For a small one, like mine, one day we are the worst in the planet; the next day, after one gold medal, this is our best Olympics ever. How feeble we have become!
The Portuguese have to realise that our athletes are subject to trials almost no one else in Portugal is: they have to show their worth in front of the whole world. How many others, if subjected to the same examination, would have achieved similar results?
People should worry about the decadence of this country in every aspect, except...sports, in which we are pretty good comparing, and stop using sports as an excuse for not facing our true problems.
.A final remark for the next Olympics: I hope we'll have horse races then, as it's the only original element of the ancient competition removed from the modern games. History tells us that the day Alexander was born one of his father's horses won the Olympic race. That's reason enough to bring back horse races again, as far as I'm concerned. But there are others, obvious ones. Or does the IOC have anything specific against horse racing?
